This year, Student Volunteers will provide essential support to the IEEE VIS Conference. We are looking for reliable and enthusiastic students who have experience with in-person events to staff various conference events or help with pre-conference online setup to ensure a pleasant overall experience.
Student Volunteers will receive all of the benefits of this year’s program and get access to reserved virtual groups (more on this soon!). Student Volunteers will also benefit by observing first-hand the latest advances in visualization, hearing and meeting world-class as well as next-generation visualization professionals from around the world, and building a network of research colleagues.
We will be selecting online SVs on a two-week cycle in order to accommodate pre-conference duties starting on ** (AoE). For in-person SVs, we run a batch selection using a point-based random selection algorithm after the SV registration date closes on ** (AoE). Additionally, the SV T-shirt contest winner is guaranteed a SV spot. For more details, please check the selection process page.
☛ Applications ☚ open on **, ****. We keep the system open until **, ****.
Applicants must be enrolled as full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate students during the conference. We may request proof of enrollment be provided. Post-Docs will not be considered.
Volunteers will work approximately 10–15 hours before and/or during the conference. The preconference tasks consist of online tasks, which could be helping set up the website/conferencing platform for talk videos, checking videos and slides, etc. In-conference tasks will be in-person tasks, such as checking in conference attendees, monitoring the audio-visual quality presentation and assisting presenters, helping set up/take down posters, etc. Please check the tasks page for more information.
Requests to perform certain tasks are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis, with limits to the number of hours any volunteer may devote to certain types of tasks. Volunteers will be notified when the task request system will open. Preconference tasks are given higher priority to those who are not able to travel to Melbourne in-person.
In exchange for approximately 10–15 hours of work, Student Volunteers will receive the following benefits:
